Mother 1+2 is a special compilation that brings two of Japan's most cherished and quirky role-playing games to a single Game Boy Advance cartridge. This package includes the complete Famicom original, Mother, and its world-renowned Super Famicom sequel, Mother 2 (which was released as EarthBound in North America). Background

Released exclusively in Japan in 2003, Mother 1+2 was created to celebrate the beloved series and anticipate the upcoming release of Mother 3. While Mother 2 was already a cult classic in the West, the original Mother had never been officially released outside of Japan. This made the compilation a highly sought-after import for international fans eager to experience the series' origins. It provided the first-ever portable version of both games, allowing a new generation to discover the magic of Shigesato Itoi's unique vision.

Gameplay

This compilation offers two distinct but thematically linked RPG experiences.

Mother

The first game introduces the formula: a modern-day American setting, a young boy named Ninten who discovers he has psychic "PSI" powers, and a quest to stop an alien invasion. Gameplay is a traditional turn-based JRPG, known for its challenging difficulty and high rate of random encounters. Players explore towns, fight everyday objects turned hostile, and uncover a surprisingly emotional story.

Mother 2 (EarthBound)

The sequel refines everything from the original. Players control Ness on his quest to stop the cosmic entity Giygas. It features the iconic rolling HP meter, which allows players a chance to act before taking fatal damage. The gameplay is more polished, the world is larger and more bizarre, and the story is celebrated for its perfect blend of humor, satire, and profound moments.
