Super Street Fighter II Turbo: Revival, known as Super Street Fighter II X Revival in Japan, is a 2001 fighting game developed and published by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance. A port of the 1994 arcade classic Super Street Fighter II Turbo, it’s the fifth revision of the Street Fighter II series, featuring 18 playable characters, including the 16 from Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers (Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile, Blanka, Dhalsim, E. Honda, Zangief, T. Hawk, Fei Long, Dee Jay, Cammy, Balrog, Vega, Sagat, M. Bison) plus Akuma and his enhanced version, Shin Akuma. Released in Japan on June 13, 2001, North America on October 30, 2001, and Europe on November 2, 2001, it was later re-released on Wii U Virtual Console in 2015. With new character illustrations by Edayan, updated stages, and GBA-optimized controls, it’s a celebrated handheld adaptation.
This GBA port refines Super Street Fighter II Turbo with Super Combos, air combos, and throw softening, while adapting to the GBA’s four-button layout with customizable controls and an easy-input option for special moves. It includes all characters from the arcade, with Akuma and Shin Akuma as unlockables, and adds modes like Time Attack, Mission, and Team Battle, unlockable via a VS points system. Despite using SNES sprites for most animations and arcade sprites for new moves, causing slight visual inconsistencies, its lightning-fast gameplay and portable format make it a must-play for retro ROM and fighting game fans.
