# Retro Game: Super Punch-Out!!
## Overview
*Super Punch-Out!!* for the Super Nintendo is the stunning 16-bit follow-up to the NES classic, offering a faster, more fluid, and graphically rich boxing experience. Players once again step into the boots of a green-haired underdog boxer, challenging a bizarre and hilarious lineup of 16 international pugilists across four different circuits. With new moves, new opponents, and a vibrant arcade feel, this title is a masterclass in puzzle-based fighting action.
## Background
Released by Nintendo in 1994, *Super Punch-Out!!* is not a direct sequel to *Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!*, but rather a home console adaptation of the 1985 arcade game of the same name. It was developed by Nintendo's internal teams to leverage the power of the SNES, resulting in large, beautifully animated character sprites and fast-paced gameplay that felt distinct from its 8-bit predecessor. The game carved its own legacy with a unique roster of characters like the French narcissist Narcis Prince and the elderly but formidable Hoy Quarlow, becoming a beloved classic in its own right.
## Gameplay
*Super Punch-Out!!* retains the series' signature "behind-the-back" perspective and gameplay centered on pattern recognition. However, it introduces several key changes. The "star" system for uppercuts is replaced by a power meter at the bottom of the screen. As the player successfully lands punches, the meter fills. Once full, the player can unleash powerful knockout hooks and uppercuts. The player also has more defensive options, with the ability to dodge left and right, block, and now duck under certain attacks. The game is structured into four circuits: the Minor Circuit, Major Circuit, World Circuit, and the ultimate Special Circuit, each with four opponents of increasing difficulty that must be defeated to claim the championship belt.
